
Xavier Gipson Named Phil Steele's WAC Offensive Player of the Year; 24 Lumberjacks Named to Steele's All-WAC Teams

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The postseason honors continue to roll in for the WAC champion Stephen F. Austin football team with 24 Lumberjacks being named to the 2022 Phil Steele All-WAC Team.
Xavier Gipson was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Year and named to the All-WAC 1st Team as a wide receiver, punt returner, and all-purpose player.
Gipson had a standout 2022 season. The Dallas, Texas native and Walter Payton Award Watch List nominee led the WAC in several statistical categories, including 1163 receiving yards, 105.7 receiving yards per game, and 5.9 receptions per game. Gipson added seven receiving touchdowns and 135.09 all-purpose yards per game. Gipson finished his Lumberjack career as the all-time leader in receiving yards with 4321 and also set the single-game record of 256 receiving yards in a 41-38 win over Southern Utah.
On offense, Chad Aune (TE), Clint Lapic (OL), and Keegan Holm (OL) earned All-WAC 1st Team honors. On the other side of the ball, BJ Thompson (DL), and Myles Heard (DB) earned first-team honors. Chris Campos (K) represents special teams with a first-team nod.
11 Lumberjacks were named to the All-WAC 2nd Team, with Trae Self (QB), Jerrell Wimbley (RB), Justice Guillory (OL), and Daniel Keys (OL) each earning accolades for the offensive unit. On defense, Edward Bobino (DL), Amad Murray (DL), Jermaine Brown (LB), Tkai Lloyd (DB), and Jeremiah Walker (DB) earned the second-team accolades. Max Quick (P), and Chase Ruiz (LS) also picked up second-team honors on special teams.
Four 'Jacks picked up All-WAC 3rd Team honors. Miles Reed (RB), Jaret Porterfield (OL), DaRyan Williams (LB), and Bruce Harmon (DB) round out the team.
