Tyler McCliment-Call Scores a Career-High 17 Points as Ladyjacks Take Down Arizona State.
Stephen F. Austin defeated Arizona State 75-60, Sunday afternoon. SFA improves to 7-2 overall, while ASU falls to 6-4.
The Ladyjacks scored the first two buckets and held the lead for most of the first quarter. SFA went into the quarter break with a four point lead over ASU. The Sun Devils fought back in the second half and took the lead from the Ladyjacks and went into the locker room with a one-point lead, 34-33. SFA reclaimed the lead halfway through the third quarter and then went on a 20-4 scoring run to finish the third quarter with a 16 point lead. The Ladyjacks maintained a double digit lead in the fourth quarter and won by 15 points.
SFA led ASU in all major stat categories such as; points in the paint (40-22), points off of turnovers (24-9), second chance points (17-9), fast break points (15-12), bench points (14-6), field goal percentage (46.0-40.0), three-point percentage (50.0-26.7), and free throw percentage (83.3-80.0). Aiyana Johnson led the team with 18 points, followed by a career-high by Tyler McCliment-Call with 17 points. Johnson and Avery Brittingham tied with seven rebounds, followed by McCliment-Call who recorded six. Johnson also led the Ladyjacks with five assists, followed by four Ladyjacks who each recorded three. Destini Lombard, Jordan Harrison, and Angel Scott each recorded three steals in this game.
A Look at the Lady Rams
Don't be fooled by this small NAIA school as they have a strong woman's basketball program that shouldn't be looked over. They sit at a 7-1 record with most of their wins coming with double-digit point deficits. The Lady Rams also don't seem to get homesick as they have a perfect 5-0 road record.
Expect Zarria Carter to be aggressive in the paint as she leads the team with 16.5 points per games with all her points coming inside the arc. Carter also leads the team in total rebounds (71) and blocks (6)
Carter, Kertisa Amos, Makayla Coy, and Taryn Willis make up the heart of the offense as they all lead in most of the offensive stat categories such as points per game, rebounds, and field goal percentage. The Ladyjacks need to be sharp on offense as these four Lady Rams also compose of two-third of the team's total steals.
Ladyjacks Ranked First in Preseason WAC Coaches and Media Polls and Aiyana Johnson Named Preseason WAC Player of the Year
