NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- SFA football head coach Colby Carthel has announced the promotion of Jamarkus McFarland to Assistant Head Coach entering the 2021-22 season. McFarland, who had served as an assistant coach on the SFA staff for the past two seasons, will continue to oversee the defensive tackles in addition to taking on additional responsibilities as the assistant head coach.
"Coach McFarland has done a tremendous job over the past 3 years and is very deserving of this promotion", said Carthel. "He is one of the most respected up-and-coming coaches in this profession and will serve SFA Football well as the Assistant Head Coach."
McFarland has made an immediate impact on the recruiting trail for SFA, helping land the top FCS recruit in back-to-back years, both defensive linemen. Those commitments helped SFA secure Top-5 FCS recruiting classes in consecutive seasons, helping lead SFA to its first winning season since 2011.
