NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Following competition at the 2021 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, a total of ten All-American honors are coming back to Nacogdoches with the SFA Track and Field team. Five of SFA's All-American honors are First Team honorees, as the 'Jacks stole the show in a pair of events on the men's side on the way to a 13th place team finish with 18 points.
SFA's Branson Ellis became SFA's first national champion since fellow vaulter Demi Payne (2015) with a top mark of 18-8.25 in the vault, earning First Team honors for himself. Closing out the men's meet was the sensational 4x400 meter relay team of Muzuri Mattar, Paul Martin, Jeremiah Curry and Auhmad Robinson, who raced their way to a second-place finish and All-American First Team honors with a program-record time of 3:01.52 in the event. Robinson's anchor leg propelled SFA from a fifth-place finish into second place, thanks to a mark of 43.45, which is the second fastest split in NCAA history in the event.
Robinson also earned All-American Honorable Mention honors in the 400m dash, one of five SFA athletes to earn Honorable Mention honors. Cord Neal (Javelin), Izac Canchola (Javelin), Kaylee Bizzell (Pole Vault) and Asani Hylton (Decathlon) also earned the recognition over the weekend's competition.
SFA's ten total All-Americans in the NCAA meet was a program-best mark, and the finish in the men's 4x400 relay is also a program-best.
