Lumberjacks Drop Doubleheader at Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Today's slate of games consisted of two moving pitching performances from the Islanders, as John Gaddis (6.0 IP, 6 K's, 2 BB) logged his fifth consecutive win in Game 1, followed by Hayden Thomas retiring 12 Lumberjack batters in Game 2. SFA was held to only four runs on the day.
Game 1: AMCC 10, SFA 2 (7 inn.)
Game 2: AMCC 5, SFA 2 (9 inn.)
The Lumberjacks move to 15-27 overall and 12-18 in SLC play. The 'Jacks will have one more chance to capture a win against the Islanders in the series finale tomorrow at noon.
GAME 1 | AMCC 10, SFA 2 (7 inn.)
- Gaddis pitched six scoreless innings for the Islanders, topped off by the AMCC bats clamping a six-run offensive stanza to give the home squad a 7-0 lead.
- Clayton Loranger doubled in the top of the fifth in addition to a two-out single from Cameron Crawford to advance Loranger to third, but the previous pair of strikeouts and pop up prevented SFA to enhance scoring possibilities.
- Josh Carraway reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI to push the advantage to 8-0 after five complete.
- The Lumberjacks connected on two hits for two runs in the seventh formulated by Skylar Black's base hit plus Jordan Monacy's double, but were unable to convert a flow of offensive rhythm.
GAME 2 | AMCC 5, SFA 2 (9 inn.)
- The 'Jacks took a 1-0 lead (Clayton Loranger, 1B RF, RBI) to score Kyle Cullen (BB, SB) to kick off the first inning.
- In the bottom of the first, the Islanders converted on a sacrifice bunt RBI to tie up the game a one run apiece. Another base-hit RBI gave AMCC the lead back, 2-1.
- Caraway's solo shot to center extended the lead to 3-1 to conclude the third.
- A sequence from Luke Markotic (1B, LF) advancing to second base on the throw in addition to Tristan Welch's previous single boosted the lead 5-1.
- Garrett Goetz homered to right center in the top of the seventh to make it only a three-run ballgame, but the contest wrapped up at 5-2.
