Ladyjacks Drop SLC Semifinal to #3 McNeese

HAMMOND, La. -- The SFA softball team met its match on Friday in a semifinal matchup with third-seeded McNeese, falling by a 4-1 decision to slide into an elimination game with second-seeded Central Arkansas on Saturday. A win in that game would vault SFA into the title game and a rematch with the Cowgirls at 1:00 p.m.
A leadoff home run by the first batter of the game got McNeese an early lead and run support for starter Whitney Tate, who kept the Ladyjack offense at bay until the sixth inning, when SFA cut the lead down to 2-1 on an RBI double from Gaby Garcia. SFA's rally came up short from there, however, as McNeese tagged Kassidy Wilbur (30-5) for two more runs in the seventh to put the game away.
Mackenzie Bennett flashed the bat with a 3-3 performance at the plate, including a double. Wilbur pitched seven innings, striking out eight but giving up four runs on nine hits.
