NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA soccer team fell behind in a home match against McNeese but responded well with two goals on the way to a 2-1 victory over the Cowgirls at SFA Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. SFA improves to 9-5-2 and 7-3 in conference play with the victory, and sits in first place in the league standings after losses by Northwestern State and Lamar on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ladyjacks were tested early on in the contest, as McNeese converted on an early chance at goal with a set piece strike in the 15th minute of play. Undeterred, the 'Jacks marched down the field and equalized in the 19th minute as Katelyn Termini's service found the foot of Colleen Feagins, who slotted the ball into goal to tie the game up. Four minutes later, Termini got a dangerous opportunity in front of the McNeese goal, but her shot rang off the crossbar to seemingly deny the 'Jacks a chance at a go-ahead goal. Instead, the ball bounced towards a charging Feagins, who fired a powerful strike into goal but close range to take a 2-1 lead.
Despite creating several more chances to add insurance goals, SFA was unable to extend the lead and instead relied on dominating possession to limit McNeese in a comeback bid. The 'Jacks were able to keep McNeese off the board by not allowing a shot to the visitors in the second half on the way to an 18-4 advantage in shots.
Termini led the 'Jacks with five total shots in addition to the assist, while Feagins totaled three shots in recording her first multi-goal game of her career.
