BEAUMONT, Texas -- The SFA soccer team's stellar season came to an unfortunate end on Thursday in Beaumont in a 2-0 semifinal loss to the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana. The top-seeded Lumberjacks were undone not by the stellar play of their opponents but more by the lingering effects of playing 359 minutes worth of soccer in a six day span.

The Lions got on the board first in the contest, finding their game-winner in the 33rd minute of play. An insurance goal in the 73rd minute did more to create distance for the fifth-seeded Lions. The two sides had a nearly equal shot count (16-15), but SFA was only able to put four attempts on target in the contest and wasn't able to find a goal for just the second time this season.

SFA ends their season at 10-6-3 overall but with the last laugh, as they defied all expectations set out for them in the preseason coaches poll, where they were picked to finish eighth in the league table. Instead, the Lumberjacks claimed the 2020 regular season title outright in their final season in the Southland Conference.
