NACOGDOCHES, Texas – SFA men's basketball and head coach Kyle Keller announced the signing of Derrick Tezeno, a 6'5" guard out of North Central HS (LA.) to join the team in the 2021-22 season. Tezeno comes highly touted out of the Pelican State, standing as the top recruit out of the state accord to Prep Hoops.
"We are excited about signing Derrick to our program today", said Keller. "He brings size, athleticism, and skill to the perimeter that we need. A winner in his entire career. He understands the expectations of the Lumberjack program. Derrick fits our culture."
Tezeno comes to the 'Jacks after a senior season in which he averaged 26 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game for North Central. He was chosen as a Louisiana Class 1A MVP and First Team All-State selection, and was a candidate for Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year. Tezeno had a storied prep career, scoring over 4000 career points and leading North Central to a pair of state championships.
"Derrick Tezeno is such a humble young man" said North Central head coach Chris Cane. "He's a great teammate and most important he's a leader on and off the floor. Derrick never cheats the game, meaning that he gives 100% in practice and games. I had the honor and pleasure to coach Derrick for one year and he made my job very easy. I will truly miss him as a competitor and as a friend."
