NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Ladyjack softball team took to the diamond at SFA Softball Field for a home game for the first time in 662 days on Tuesday, defeating Louisiana Tech by a 4-0 score. The game was the first played by the Ladyjacks since May of 2019, as a series of inclement weather events, field vandalism and a worldwide pandemic stalled SFA's return to playing on their home field, SFA didn't miss a beat with the opportunity, as they took down the Lady Techsters for their sixth straight victory to move to 7-7 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ladyjacks used the moment from a strong start by Kassidy Wilbur in the circle, as she sat down the Techsters in order to start the game. Camryn Middlebrook walked and quickyl advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then came around to score on a no-doubt moon shot by Shaylon Govan over the left field fence one batter later. Govan's long ball was her third of the season and gave SFA the early 2-0 lead. After Wilbur continued to carve through the LA Tech lineup, Govan added a run in the bottom of the third inning, as she hit a rocket out to right center that snuck over the fence for her second home run of the contest and fourth of the season.
In the fifth inning, the Ladyjacks loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a fielding error by Louisiana Tech. Then, a dropped fly ball allowed Bryana Novegil to come home to push the lead to 4-0.
Wilbur was dominant in the complete game shutout, coming up just shy of a no-hitter effort. She allowed just one hit, a single, and issued a pair of walks. She struck out eight batters in the contest as well.
