Beaumont, TEXAS – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (2-6) approached Game 3 of the three-game series 0-2 against the Cardinals, and fell 3-2 this afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Lumberjacks scored back-to-back runs in the fifth and sixth to go ahead 2-1, but two runs from the Cardinals in the seventh inning was enough for the sweep in this series.

The Lumberjacks collected eight hits on the day from seven different players, but the Cardinals matched with eight hits themselves. The difference maker in Game 3 was the Lamar's pitching performance, with starter Dylan Johnson (5.0 IP) allowing four hits and one run, in addition to striking out eight Lumberjack batters. Max Mize (1-0) allowed zero runs in the seventh and eighth innings, and Jack Dallas collected the save.

Lamar led 1-0 up until the fifth inning, soon to be changed by a double from Bryan Burgos to charge in Kyle Cullen (2B) to make it 1-1. The Cardinals didn't have an answer in B5, propelling the Lumberjacks in T6 from Skylar Black's sacrifice fly to score Adrian Minjares (1B), as the Lumberjacks led 2-1 through six.

It wasn't until the seventh inning where Lamar took control, after Avery George's 2 RBI single to center field brought in Logan Lejeune and Reese Durand to boost the Cardinals up, 3-2. The Lumberjacks left a runner on base in both the seventh and eighth inning, not enough to climb back for the victory.
