
Softball Completes Weekend Sweep of Lamar on Saturday, 9-1

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA softball team jumped out to an early lead and never relented in Saturday.s 9-1 win over Lamar, which completed the series sweep for the hosts after a pair of lopsided wins on Friday. SFA notched its seventh win in a row with the victory and is now 17-8 on the season and 9-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SFA got on board first in the second inning, as Alex Hedspeth singled, stole second, advanced to third on a single and came in to score on a groundout by Marisa Arriaga. In the third frame, the 'Jacks got two runners on via a single by Bailey Richards and a Lamar error that allowed Novegil to reach. After Camryn Middlebrook advanced them to second and third with a sacrifice bunt, Gaby Garcia drove in both with a double to left center. Hedspeth was then hit by a pitch, and Gacria and Hedspeth came in to score on an error by the Lamar shortstop, making the score 5-0.
Leading off the fourth with a double by Amanda Carden, the 'Jacks then loaded the bases with a single, a fielder's choice and a walk, although Carden was out at home via a forceout. Shaylon Govan was then hit by a pitch, forcing in a run as Bailey Richards scored. Later, Hedspeth doubled down the left field line to plate Govan and Middlebrook, and Bennett's RBI single one batter later scored Gaby Garcia for a 9-0 lead. Lamar tacked on a fifth inning solo home run to spoil the shutout bid, but the game was called after the top of the fifth inning.
Kassidy Wilbur earned the win in the circle with five innings of one-run ball. She allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.
