‘Jacks Make Statement in Doubleheader at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks defeated the McNeese Cowboys for the third consecutive time this weekend, notching two wins over the top-rated Cowboys in today's doubleheader. SFA has won four-straight in conference play, highlighted by a pair of wins over the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the Southland Conference, McNeese and New Orleans. Head Coach Johnny Cardenas and co. move to 7-12, 5-6 SLC.
Game 1 | SFA, 5-2
The Cowboys gathered two hits in the first three innings of play with SFA remaining hitless thus far, swiftly to be changed by the Lumberjacks acquiring four runs in the top of the fourth. Cal Martin's 2 RBI single up the middle with a full count scored Kade Clemens (2B) and Sean Moore (1B) for a 4-0 'Jacks lead at the end of four.
In the fifth, Kyle Cullen and Cameron Crawford got things going with back-to-back singles, each strategically stealing a base to advance their scoring chances. Cullen sprinted home on a wild pitch during Will Long's at-bat to make it all 'Jacks, 5-0. McNeese compiled two runs in the sixth, not enough to climb back into the seven-inning first game.
Game 2 | SFA, 4-3
Skylar Black was able to heat up the Lumberjack offense by slamming a 2 RBI homerun to left field in the third, scoring Gabe Irwin (BB) for a 2-0 advantage after three complete innings. Neither team caught fire again until the seventh, but McNeese gained a homerun from Nate Fisbeck to put the Cowboys within one run heading into the eighth.
Sean Moore connected on a two-out RBI double in the top half of the eighth to advance the SFA lead to 3-1, soon for Fisbeck to strike again with a 2 RBI single to center field to even the game at 3-3.
The gritty contest was bound to go down to the ninth inning, as Will Cerny claimed the game-winning RBI for Cal Campbell to prosper home, who was set up by Kyle Cullen's previous base hit.
