
Ladyjacks Complete Sweep of UIW with 8-2 Victory on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The SFA softball team completed a dominant weekend series on Saturday with a resounding 8-2 victory over UIW that moved them to 10-7 on the season and 3-0 in league play. The win was also SFA's ninth victory in a row, and evens its record in true road games to 3-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ladyjacks jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, as Bryana Novegil walked and was brought home by a double from Shaylon Govan to open up a 1-0 lead. Alex Hedspeth was then hit by a pitch and stole second one batter later, with Govan coming in to score on a throwing error by the catcher.
After UIW hit a home run to cut the deficit in half, the Ladyjacks answered with an RBI groundout by Novegil to score Alex Dubose and make the lead 3-1. In the third, the 'Jacks tacked on two more runs, as Govan homered to lead off the inning and Dubose had an RBI groundout to score Gaby Garcia, who had doubled following Govan's home run.
An RBI single from Hedspeth tacked on a sixth run in the fourth frame, and the Ladyjacks pushed the lead to 8-1 in the sixth inning with RBI singles from Govan and Amanda Carden. UIW tacked on an unearned run in the seventh off Govan, who had come on in relief, but Govan closed out the inning to seal the win.
Govan and Novegil combined to torch the Cardinals at the plate for three runs and three hits apiece, while Govan also drove in three runs. Five other Ladyjacks recorded a hit and four drove in a run in support of Kassidy Wilbur (10-3), who fired off 5.2 innings of one-run ball while striking out six.
