Ladyjack Softball Wraps Up Competition at Snowman Tournament

STARKSVILLE, MS. -- The SFA softball team wrapped up play at The Snowman Tournament on Monday morning, dropping a pair of tough decisions to Missouri State and Southern Illinois. The Ladyjacks fell to Missouri State 4-0 in the opener and came up just short of a comeback in a 5-4 decision to Southern Illinois in the second game.
GAME 1 | vs. Missouri State
In a rubber match against the Bears to open up the second day of play, the Ladyjacks fell behind 4-0 in the game's first three frames, as Missouri State tagged starter Kassidy Wilbur with two runs in the first inning and solo runs in the second and third.
Alex Hedspeth and Shaylon Govan and Alex Dubose each recorded a hit in the contest. Kassidy Wilbur hurled 5.1 innings of five-hit ball, fanning six batters. Raigan Mock threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.
GAME 2 | vs. Southern Illinois
The Ladyjacks got off to a strong start against Southern Illinois in the second game of the day, as Gaby Garcia drove in Bryana Novegil with a single to right field to give SFA a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. SIU responded with three runs off Shaylon Govan in the bottom of the frame, and added insurance runs in the third and sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Garcia came through again in the seventh for the 'Jacks to begin a comeback bit. Her double to left field plated Alex Hedspeth to trim the lead to 5-2, and Marisa Arriaga followed with a two-run single up the middle to score Garcia and Kayla Wallace and make the score 5-4.
Garcia went 2-4 at the plate with two RBI on the day, while Arriaga had two hits and tw RBI as well. Govan took the loss in the circle, fanning six across six innings.
