Gipson becomes just the second receiver to eclipse the 3,000 career reception mark reaching 3,057 career yards in Saturday's regular-season finale.
The win lifted the 'Jacks to 8-3 overall on the season and place the team squarely in the NCAA FCS Playoff picture. SFA's 13 wins between the 2020 season and 2021 season are the most wins since the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
The Lumberjacks led from start finish notching 14 points in the opening frame behind a pair of rushing touchdowns from quarterback Trae Self. After a Lamar field goal early in the second quarter, the 'Jacks added 14 more points on a pair of Self TD passes. Self hit Jeremiah Miller for a highlight-reel grab in the back corner of the end zone then connected with Lawton Rikel over the middle to take a 28-3 lead. Lamar added a field goal right before the half cutting the lead down to 28-6 at the break.
The final two frames saw SFA add 14 more onto the scoreboard. Self scampered in from five yards out in the third and Preston Weeks hit Moe Wedman over the middle for 18 yards in the fourth to give the game its final score.
Self finished 15-of-23 for 262 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He added another three rushing touchdowns finished with 28 yards on eight carries.
SFA will await its playoff fate Sunday with the NCAA Selection show at 11:30 am.
