The Western Athletic Conference announced its postseason awards and all-conference teams on Wednesday afternoon, with Taya Mitchell (Sr., MB) earning a spot on the All-WAC First Team, per the conference office.
"Taya put up great numbers in conference and has been taking a bigger offensive load recently," said Head Coach Debbie Humphreys. "It's nice to see her recognized for what she has accomplished."
Mitchell played in all 13 league sets this season, making an impact on all cylinders. Offensively, she accounted for 77 kills (1.64 K/S) and 111.0 points (2.36 PTS/S), hitting .388 across all sets. On the defensive end, she racked up 55.0 blocks (9 BS, 46 BA) for 1.17 BLK/S against conference opponents.
She set season-highs against WAC opponents during the regular season, highlighted by her 13-kill and five block performance (16.5 points) at Tarleton (11/4), as well as accumulating 11 blocks against UTRGV (10/30) to tie her career-high in the game where the 'Jacks tied the NCAA Division I Single-Game Team Blocks record across four sets record in Shelton with 22 as a team.
Her defensive consistency came through for the 'Jacks during the midst of conference play, where she notched 3+ kills in nine of the 13 matches. She contributed 5+ kills in nine WAC matches as well.
