
Ladyjacks Volleyball Opens Phoenix POD with Loss to New Mexico State

PHOENIX, AZ -- The SFA Volleyball team suffered a straight-sets loss to New Mexico State on Thursday to open play at the Phoenix POD event, falling by scores of 19,25, 20-25 and 15-25. The result moves SFA's record to 13-5 on the season and 4-2 in WAC play.
The 'Jacks couldnt get much going on offense, hitting just .140 as a team compared to a .348 clip by the Aggies.
SET ONE
SFA ceded a 3-0 lead for New Mexico State, which then grew out to 6-1 to open the match. The 'Jacks would trim the lead to as low as two points, including a 21-19 score late in the match, but NMSU scored four straight points to wrap up the opening set.
SET TWO
The second set opened with some back and forth play, but the Aggies would pull ahead 9-5 and ddi not surrender the lead the rest of the way, even as the 'Jacks once again closed to 21-20 late in the set thanks to a three-point run, only to have NMSU once again rattle off four quick points to end it.
SET THREE
With the 'Jacks trailng by a narrow 5-3 margin in the third set, the Aggies would rattle off a 6-1 run to open up a lead, which they continued to grow throughout the set, taking it by a 25-15 score.

• Leah Powell posted nine kills for SFA, while Ielan Bradley added seven.
