
Balanced Offensive Helps Lumberjacks Clip Cardinals on Road, 83-65

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The SFA men's basketball team wasn't led by one particular player on Saturday in its win over UIW, 83-65. Instead, the Lumberjacks got double-digit scoring efforts from six different players en route to a comfortable 83-65 victory inside the McDermott Center to improve to 7-2 on the season (3-0 SLC).
The Lumberjacks led 45-33 at the end of the first half of play and outscored the hosts 31-24 the rest of the way to secure the road victory, their first of the young campaign.
How It Happened
After opening the game's scoring with a jumper from Cameron Johnson, the Lumberjacks battled back and forth with the Cardinals for the next several minutes, only to see the Cardinals take a slim lead halfway through the opening frame. Trailing 23-19 with 10:36 left in the first half, the Lumberjacks responded with a 14-2 run over the next 5:36 seconds of play to take a 33-25 lead with 5:11 left to play before halftime. SFA outscored UIW 12-8 the rest of the way and led 45-33 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Lumberjacks continued to expand their lead by working the ball down low for high-percentage looks in the paint as well as turning UIW miscues into points off turnovers.
Leaders
Calvin Solomon led SFA in scoring with 13 points, but was joined by David Kachelries (12), Charlie Daniels (11), Cameron Johnson (11), Roti Ware (10) and Nigel Hawkins (10) in double figures for the game. Solomon also led the team in rebounds (eight) and blocks (3), while Kachelries and DeAndre Heckard each tallied three steals apiece.
