
Ladyjacks open 2020 Campaign with Four-Set Win over Central Arkansas

NACOGDOCHES, TX --The SFA volleyball team took care of business in four sets (25-12, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17) to beat the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears Friday at home at Shelton Gym. The non-conference victory improved SFA's record to 1-0 on the young season.
The Ladyjacks offense was paced by Payton Cerny, who finished with 12 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .474. Ariana Pagan and Leah Powell each chipped in with 11 kills as part of a balanced SFA attack. SFA got 14 digs from Madelynn Miller along with seven blocks from Ashley Procious and five rejections from Sheretta Hill to lead them defensively.

SET 1 | The Ladyjacks won the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-12. SFA opened up its biggest lead, 12 points, to close out the set.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, SFA put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Ladyjacks took the set with the help of a solid showing on the attacking end. SFA put together a .333 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set win. The Ladyjacks ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. SFA's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Central Arkansas attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Central Arkansas avoided an early loss with a set-three victory to make it a 2-1 match. After hitting below .100 in both fo the first two sets, the Sugar Bears rallied with a .353 hitting percentage in the third set to pull within a set. The Ladyjacks fell in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-21 in a set that featured two lead changes and eight ties. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | SFA then responded to claim the match win with a 25-17 fourth-set victory. The Ladyjacks took the lead for good at 11-10 in a set that featured three ties. SFA got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Central Arkansas attacks in the stanza.
