
Ladyjacks Pull Away in Fifth Set, Outlast Huskies at Home, 3-2

NACOGDOCHES, Texas --The SFA volleyball team took down the Houston Baptist Huskies 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 15-9) in five sets on Saturday at home inside Shelton Gymnasium. The victory improved the Ladyjacks' record to 5-1 overall.
The Ladyjacks were led by a double-double from Ariana Pagan, who registered 11 kills and 20 digs on the day. Payton Cerny also added 21 kills while hitting .326 to aid the Ladyjack attack. On the defensive end, Madelynn Miller chipped in 22 digs for the 'Jacks.

SET 5 | SFA required five sets to win the match. After they won the first two sets, Houston Baptist responded to take the third and fourth sets before the Ladyjacks finished off their victory with a 15-9 fifth-set win. The Ladyjacks scored first and never trailed in set five to earn the victory. SFA opened up as much as a seven point lead at 13-6 before closing out the set, collecting 12 kills in the process.
SET 1 | The Ladyjacks cruised to an early lead, handily winning the first set 25-19. SFA never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Ladyjacks took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | SFA won the second set 25-22 to quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Ladyjacks grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Ladyjacks took over in the second half of the stanza. The SFA offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | SFA saw its bid for a 3-0 sweep end when Houston Baptist took set three by a score of 25-21. Houston Baptist grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was tied up nine times before the Huskies took over in the second half of the frame.
SET 4 | SFA then dropped their second straight set 25-22 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Ladyjacks lost the set in spite of a solid performance on the attacking end, hitting .308 as a unit. The 'Jacks managed 16 kills in the set but yielded crucial points laye to the Huskies.
