A Day in the Life: Dennis Osagiede

It's 5:40 a.m.
At a time when most of Nacogdoches is still blanketed in a cozy haze of sleep, Dennis Osagiede begins his day with a start, jolted awake by the ringing of his alarm.
Casting a glance at the clock on his phone, his eyes confirm what his mind already knows – he's got 20 minutes to get dressed and head to treatment.
Entering SFA's training room means scanning the QR code on the door and receiving a temperature screen before he can enter, one of several protocols that he and every other athlete on campus have adapted to in the word of COVID-19. Greeting his athletic trainer A-Rod, Dennis slides onto a padded table and gets his treatment underway.
Next up for the junior is breakfast inside the cafeteria at 6 a.m., which consists of oatmeal and some cereal.
Fueled up for the morning, Dennis dresses for a walk-through alongside teammate Jordan Guillory, then heads out to the practice fields, but not before a quick trip to the training room to get taped up by the sports medicine staff.
A transfer in his first season with the Lumberjacks this fall, Osagiede makes the most of opportunities like this walk-through to get up familiar with the Lumberjacks' system.
At the end of the walk-through session, Dennis pauses for a light-hearted moment with teammates Larron Cox and Caleb Lawton.
With the walk-through complete, it's time to gear up for the real thing. Donning pads and a helmet complete with a black cap meant to help prevent concussions,
Osagiede heads down to the turf at Homer Bryce Stadium for a three-hour practice session.
At 6' 0" and a solid 285 pounds, Dennis is looking to carve out a role in a defensive line group for SFA that could end up being one of the team's biggest strengths this season.
As with any practice under the scorching sun of a Texas summer, today's session for Dennis wraps up with a soak in an ice bath outside the training room.
After refueling with lunch and a two hour block of rest time, Osagiede heads to team meetings at 3:00, including personal tutelage from former Oklahoma Sooner defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland, now the line coach at SFA. Then, Dennis heads into the Lawton room in SFA's Fieldhouse, where he joins his unit to break down film.
After a long day, Dennis heads home to rest, ready to repeat the process again tomorrow.
