
Kelsey Ramirez Crowned 2020 Southland Conference Indoor Women's Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year

Full Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year Release
FRISCO, Texas -- Junior Kelsey Ramirez was tabbed as the Southland Conference Indoor Women's Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2019-20 season, per a release from the conference office on Thursday. Ramirez capped off an incredible indoor season in which she won the gold medal in a pair of distance events at the 2019-20 Southland Conference Indoor Championship, helping SFA capture the team title as well.
A native of La Porte, Texas, Ramirez rounded out her junior indoor season with two gold medals in the mile and 3,000-meter events at the 2020 Southland Indoor Championships. Her first-place performance in the mile marked a personal record, when she crossed the finish line with a 4:48.75 clip. She also ran the anchor leg of the Distance Medley Relay for the Ladyjacks, which alos took first in the conference meet.
Earlier in the season, the junior posted a school record in the 3,000-meter race capturing a 9:32.05 at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Ramirez also maintains a 3.84 GPA as a Kinesiology major.
Student-Athlete of the Year is voted on by the Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member universities. Southland Student-Athlete of the Year nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
