NACOGDOCHES, Texas --

The Lumberjacks move to 2-0 with a gritty 86-76 win over McNeese Friday night. Every basket, possession, and loose ball down the stretch counted in this one.

The 'Jacks gained a 12-9 lead at the first media timeout after scoring eight of their first 12 points off of McNeese turnovers. Gavin Kensmil and Calvin Solomon showed their presence in the paint early with a pair of post moves down low, with David Kachelries chipping in a few buckets himself. The contest was tied at 17-17 with just under 11 minutes to play in the half, but McNeese matched the intensity every time down the floor, and had a 26-21 lead of their own with just under nine minutes to play in the first 20 minutes. The Cowboys led at the break, 39-38.

SFA fought their way back at the start of the 2nd half with a Deandre Heckard layup pulling the game closer to make it 43-42 McNeese, and a Kensmil layup put the Lumberbacks back up 44-43 at the 16:47 mark, and the home team didn't look back from there. The Cowboys were able to get within five points mid-way through the 2^nd half, but the momentum was in the home team's favor from there. The Lumberjacks scored a total of 17 second-chance points on the outing, shooting 56.4 percent from the field (31-55 FG).
