
Ladyjack Volleyball Splits Matches at North Texas on Saturday

DENTON, Texas -- The Ladyjack volleyball team bounced back from a tough five-set decision against North Texas in the opening match of Saturday's doubleheader, battling past the Miners of UTEP 3-1 in the matinee. The split decision moved SFA's record to 8-2 this fall and 3-1 in road matches.
MATCH ONE vs. North Texas - 3-2
The Ladyjacks were edged out by the hosts in the first set, 25-22, as they hit just .054 in the stanza and had ten kills. SFA rallied in the second set, hitting .321 with 12 kills and adding a pair of service aces to take the second set, 25-19. A match-high 15 kills in the third frame propelled the 'Jacks to a 25-21 victory in that set, but SFA was unable to capitalize in the fourth set, hitting .125 and committing seven errors to drop that stanza, 25-17. A tight fifth set saw the Mean Green slip by the Ladyjacks, 15-12, even as SFA totaled a stellar .360 attacking percentage in the set.
Sheretta Hill and Payton Cerny each tallied 14 kills to lead the Ladyjacks in the match, while Leah Powell added 12 and Ielan Bradley, eight. Allie Hamsher recorded 32 assists while Maddy Borque chipped in 23. Madelynn Miller had 18 digs, while Bryli Contreras added ten.
MATCH TWO vs. UTEP - 3-1
In SFA's second match of the day, the Lumberjacks took advantage of an error-prone Miners squad to earn their eighth win of the season.The Ladyjacks won the first set comfortably over UTEP, 25-16, before faltering in the second stanza in which the Miners hit .256 and notched 14 kills. The Ladyjacks tallied a 25-21 victory in the fourth set thanks to an ultra-efficient .478 attack percentage and 13 kils, and then closed out the Miners with a narrow 26-24 victory in set five.
Cerny led the way for the 'Jacks with 10 kills in the match, while Powell had nine and Bradley, eight. Borque tallied 20 assists to Hamsher's 17, and Miller led the defensive effort for SFA with 22 digs.
