Pair of 'Jacks earn national accolade at USATF National Championship

MIRAMAR, Fla. – As it turns out, "Pole Vault U" had another dominant showing in store for the 2018-19 season.
Rising sophomores Nastassja Campbell and Branson Ellis finished first in their respective pole vault competitions at the USA Track and Field U20 National Championship on Saturday. Both athletes end their freshman campaign as two-time Southland Conference Champions, two-time NCAA All-Americans, and USATF U20 National Champions.
Campbell's championship effort saw her pass on both the opening height of 3.80 and the following bar at 3.95m. Coming in at the 4.10m mark, Campbell cleared on her first attempt, taking the edge over Towson's Hayley Horvath, the only other vaulter to clear the bar (second attempt). After neither cleared the following bar at 4.20m, Campbell won the competition thanks to her first clearance at 4.10m.
Ellis won the men's competition thanks to a clearance of 5.25m (17-2.75), becoming the only competitor to clear the bar after joining the competition at 5.15m (16-10.75).
