
Track and Field Earns Three of Final Southland Conference Athlete of the Week Honors

FRISCO, Texas – The SFA Track and Field team saw a pair of individuals and the men's 4x400 relay recognized as the Southland Conference's top performers of the week on Wednesday afternoon. Branson Ellis and Madison Pecot swept the Field athlete of the Week honors, while the men's 4x400 relay team claimed Track Athlete of the Week plaudit. The occurrence gives SFA a total of 17 Athlete of the Week accolades in total between the indoor and outdoor season.
Ellis, a freshman from Tyler, claims the first Athlete of the Week honor of his young career after setting a new personal best in the vault this weekend. His first-place mark of 5.61m (18-4) was the top mark in the Southland Conference this season and ranks him fifth nationally.
Pecot, a senior in her first competition season for the Ladyjacks, was also a strong performer on Saturday, edging out teammate Nastassja Campbell with a mark of 4.33m (14-2.5) to claim first place at the meet. Her mark also leads the Southland Conference and ranks fifth national in the event.
On the men's side, the 4x400 meter relay team of Drake Murphy, Antonio Ruiz, Isaiah Pittman and AJ Bennett ran to a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:08.62, improving on their previous best this season. That time ranks third in the Southland and 29thin the NCAA this season. The women's 4x400 meter team of Imani Nave, Aaliyah Teel, Dominique Jackson and Cayla Burch finished as Honorable Mention in the women's track athlete voting.
