
Ladyjacks Place Four on All-Southland Bowling League Teams

Senior Dakotah Hazlewood highlights league’s inaugural all-conference awards; Paige Beeney, Sarah Gill and Carlene Beyer named honorable mention
FRISCO, Texas – For the first time in the Southland Bowling League's five seasons of existence, an all-conference team has been named. The SFA bowling team is well represented in the league's inaugural all-conference awards with senior bowler Dakotah Hazlewood capturing All-Southland Bowling League First Team accolades and a total of four Ladyjacks earning all-conference honors. Senior Paige Beeney, sophomore Sarah Gill and freshman Carlene Beyer have all landed honorable mention acclaim as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
With All-Southland Bowling League teams based upon individual statistics throughout the season, the top 20 bowlers were ranked with the top five earning first-team honors, the second five second-team plaudits and those ranked 11-20 claiming honorable mention.
A native of Capron, Illinois (Rockford Luthern HS), Hazlewood served as SFA's lynchpin bowler throughout most of the 2018-19 season. Owning a 20.45 per frame average in all matches bowled, Hazlewood ranked second in the league in that category while holding a team-best 205.5 game score average in 46 individual games. She knocked down 9,453 total pins in traditional team matches and rolled 28 200-pin games. Helping the Ladyjacks to their first tournament title since 2016 at the Kutztown Invitational in Limerick, Pennsylvania, Hazlewood averaged a 242.4 score in five traditional team games and picked up MVP honors as the top bowler among 182 total competitors. Tallying a tournament-best pinfall total of 1,212, Hazlewood posted a career-high game of 274 in SFA's 1,043-939 win over tournament host and 25th-ranked Kutztown. Bowling five-straight games with at least a 214 score at the Kutztown Invitational, her 242.4 average was the highest by a Ladyjack bowler in five traditional games since First-Team All-American Stephanie Schwartz ('18) averaged a 245.6 at the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational. Most recently, Hazlewood bowled three 200-pin games at the Southland Bowling League Championship as SFA reached the elimination bracket final.
Beeney, a native of Salado, Texas (Georgetown HS), was the Ladyjacks' second-best bowler throughout 2018-19, averaging a 198.83 game score in a team-high 52 individual games. She knocked down 10,339 total pins in traditional team matches and bowled 23 games at or above 200, ranking 10th in the Southland Bowling League with a 19.84 per frame average in all matches she saw action in. At the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Beeney garnered all-tournament team honors after finishing second in the individual standings among 128 total bowlers. She came three pins shy of claiming the individual crown by knocking down 1,086 total pins in the five traditional team games and averaging a game score of 217.2. In SFA's 1,050-902 match win over then second-ranked Nebraska, Beeney rolled a career-best game of 267 and turned in four-straight 200-pin games during traditional team match play. Beeney helped lead the Ladyjacks to their second tournament title of the season and first undefeated tournament in program history at the Sunshine State Winter Classic in Orlando, Florida, grabbing MVP accolades and earning a spot on the all-tournament team. She finished third among 93 total bowlers with a 212 game average in five traditional team games and knocked down 1,060 total pins, rolling a team-best 256 to will SFA to a 1,090-1,082 victory over then ninth-ranked Tulane and assisting the Ladyjacks to an improbable 4-3 comeback win over third-ranked and top-seeded Nebraska in the championship match.
From Attleboro, Massachusetts (Attleboro HS), Gill averaged a 198 individual game score in 2018-19 and accumulated 8,514 total pins in 43 traditional team matches. Owning a 19.61 per frame average in all matches bowled, Gill ranks 14th in the Southland Bowling League in that category and turned in a season-best eighth-place finish among 111 total bowlers at the Track Kat Klash in Houston. Finishing as the top SFA bowler at the tournament, Gill rolled three 200-pin games, including a career-high 259 against then fifth-ranked Arkansas State, and averaged a 204.6 in five individual games for 1,023 pins in total. Most recently, Gill earned a spot on the 2019 Southland Bowling League Championship All-Tournament Team after averaging a 191.8 individual game score in the Ladyjacks' five traditional team matches She knocked down 959 total pins in traditional team match play and was SFA's top bowler in the elimination bracket final versus top-seeded Vanderbilt.
Hailing from Ogdensburg, Wisconsin (Little Wolf HS), Beyer has had a fantastic start to her collegiate bowling career, averaging a 194.32 individual game score in 50 traditional team matches and recording 19 200-pin games this season. Collecting 9,716 total pins in traditional match play, Beyer's 19.26 per frame average ranks 18th among all Southland Bowling League bowlers. At SFA's fifth annual Stormin' Ladyjack Classic in Dallas, Beyer became the third Ladyjack to garner MVP honors at a tournament this year as she averaged a 214.83 score in six traditional team games. Beyer knocked down 1,289 total pins across the traditional team matches, posting a 200 score in five of the six games to claim top individual honors among 73 total bowlers. At the 2019 Southland Bowling League Championship two weeks ago, Beyer helped SFA to an elimination bracket semifinal triumph over third-seeded and fourth-ranked Arkansas State by rolling a career-best 269 game in the 1,063-897 traditional team match win.
The 2016 national champion Ladyjacks are headed back to the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship after a one-year hiatus. Sixth-ranked SFA will take on the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Prairie View A&M in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Bowling Championship this Friday, April 5 at 1 p.m. inside Emerald Bowl in Houston.
Advancing teams from the opening round will be placed in the championship bracket. The 2019 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship will then continue at RollHouse Wickliffe in Wickliffe, Ohio, outside of Cleveland Thursday-Saturday, April 11-13 to decide a national champion. The Mid-American Conference and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission are the hosts. Tickets for the championship can be purchased on NCAA.com prior to the championship.
