Ladyjacks drop 4-3 decision to Lady Lions
HAMMOND, La. - After winning the doubles point, the SFA tennis team found itself in a neck-and-neck battle with Southeastern Louisiana as the teams were tied 3-3 heading into the final singles match. Unfortunately it was the Lady Lions who came up with the win in that decisive match to claim a 4-3 victory in SFA's season finale Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
SFA locked up the doubles point and alternated singles wins with the Lady Lions though the first five bouts to tie things up at three points apiece.
DOUBLES
• Nida Kamal and Kyndall Misak handed the Ladyjacks the first of the two doubles wins they needed to clinch the tandem point by taking down Flory Bierma and Katya Cornejo on line three.
• After Southeastern Louisiana picked up a 6-3 victory on the top line to even things up, Armelle Cerdan and Darinka Tiboldi handed SFA its 1-0 lead by getting past Ceci Mercier and Vicky Scholz 6-3 in the number-two flight.
SINGLES
• Southeastern Louisiana deadlocked things at 1-1 when Mercier handed Ljubic a 6-0, 6-0 loss on the number-four line.
• Tiboldi made short work of Scholz, 6-3, 6-0, in the second flight to put the Ladyjacks back ahead by one.
• Cerdan found herself on the wrong end of a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Ximena Yanez who helped Southeastern Louisiana draw even once again with the third-flight singles triumph.
• Guilarte answered a 6-3 win by Putri Insani in the opening set of the number-one battle with a 6-4 win to knot things at one set apiece. Insani, however, emerged as the victor with a 6-4 win in the final frame to cut SFA's lead to put the home team ahead 3-2.
• Kamal defeated Bierma 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 in fifth-flights singles action to make matters 3-3.
• The decisive victory came in the number-six singles slot when Misak dropped a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 matchup with Cornejo.
