Senior offensive lineman joins an all-time high 1,661 players from a record 426 colleges and universities in Hampshire Honor Society membership
IRVING, Texas – The SFA football program is once again represented in the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame's (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society with senior offensive lineman Hayden Scott gaining membership to the honor society in its 13th year of existence. Scott joins an all-time high 1,661 players from a record 426 schools who qualified for membership to the 2019 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who maintained a cumulative 3.2 grade point average or better throughout their collegiate careers.
Set to graduate in May with a degree in professional accountancy, Scott has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.67 as a four-year Lumberjack letter winner and five-year member of the team. Having played in 30 total games throughout his SFA career, Scott made 16 starts on the offensive line. This past fall, the Spring, Texas (Klein Collins HS), native started all 10 games, serving as the Lumberjacks' starting center and making one start at left guard in the 93rd Battle of the Piney Woods versus 16th-ranked Sam Houston State.
Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have completed their final year of playing eligibility in 2018, achieved a 3.2 cumulative GPA throughout the entire course of undergraduate study and met all NCAA or NAIA-mandated progress toward degree requirements.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. The program further strengthens the organization's leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student-athletes at the 778 colleges and universities with football programs nationwide.
The 1,661 players honored in 2019 sets a new high water mark, eclipsing the previous record of 1,274 honorees in 2018. The 426 schools represented breaks the previous mark of 308 set in 2018.
The initiative has now honored 10,678 student-athletes since its inception, and the program has experienced growth every year in either members or school participation since its launch in 2007.
Graduated SFA football student-athletes Marlon Walls, Trent Perriman and John Franklin-Myers all gained NFF Hampshire Honor Society membership in 2018.
