Men’s Track Places Four on Southland Conference Indoor All-Conference Teams

Southland Conference All-Conference Release
FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference released its Indoor All-Conference Teams in a Tuesday afternoon release, which featured four All-Conference performers for the Lumberjack track program. Both of SFA's individual champions were award First Team honors, while two other 'Jacks brought home Third Team accolades.
Southland Conference indoor track & field superlatives are nominated and voted upon by the league's head coaches. Voting for oneself or one's own athletes is not permitted. All-Conference distinction is given to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in each championship event final.
First Team honorees for the Lumberjacks were Drake Murphy (800m) and Branson Ellis (Pole Vault). Murphy, a senior, captured gold in the 800m run after setting the school record in the event earlier in the season. Ellis stepped up in a big way in the men's vault, clearing 5.50m to qualify for nationals and capture gold in one fell swoop. His indoor season will culminate at the NCAA National Championship meet this weekend, one of three SFA representatives at the meet.
Capturing Third Team honors for SFA were Noah Berney (High Jump) and Kevin Steward (Shot Put). Both men earned their first All-Conference honor with the performance, scoring eight points apiece for the Lumberjacks.
