SFA bowling’s quest for first league crown derailed by top-seeded and second-ranked Vanderbilt in elimination bracket final
DALLAS, Texas – For the second-straight day, the SFA bowling team ran into a red-hot top-seeded Vanderbilt squad as the fourth-seeded Ladyjacks' run at the 2019 Southland Bowling League Championship came to an end Sunday morning. The second-ranked Commodores registered over 1,000 pins in both the traditional team match and Baker total pinfall match of the elimination bracket final to reach the league championship's title match.
SFA was unable to match Vanderbilt's pinfall total in either of the two matches on the third and final day of the Southland championship, despite tallying over 1,000 pins in the traditional team match. The Commodores collected 1,040 pins in the traditional team match, compared to 1,006 of that of the Ladyjacks. Both junior Megan Eaglehouse and senior Dakotah Hazlewood turned in game scores over 200 in the match with Eaglehouse recording a 205 and Hazlewood a 204, while sophomore Sarah Gill recorded a team-high 221.
Although SFA notched two 200-pin games in the Baker total pinfall match, the Ladyjacks' 910 score was not enough to top Vanderbilt's 1,036. The Commodores rolled games over 200 in four of the five Baker games and claimed more pins than the Ladyjacks in all five stanzas, despite SFA rolling a 213 in game two and posting a 200 in game three.
After averaging a 191.8 individual game score in the Ladyjacks' five traditional team matches over the weekend, Gill was named to the 2019 Southland Bowling League Championship All-Tournament Team. She knocked down 959 total pins in traditional team match play and was SFA's top bowler in the elimination bracket final Sunday versus top-seeded Vanderbilt.
