Ladyjacks Rise Two Spots in Final Round of UTRGV Invitational

Women’s golf closes out tournament by tying for lowest third round score
McALLEN, Texas – Rising two spots in the final team standings at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Invitational, the SFA women's golf team tied the tournament's lowest third round score by carding a 13-over 301 Tuesday in McAllen, Texas. Heading into the final round in seventh place among the 15-team tournament field at the McAllen Country Club, the Ladyjacks were able to tie for fifth with a three-round total of 65-over 929 following their third round performance.
Matching the same 54-hole score as fellow Southland Conference member the University of the Incarnate Word, SFA finished just five strokes off of fourth-place tournament host UTRGV (60-over 924) and 10 strokes ahead of league adversary McNeese.
Holding steady to tie for 12th among 80 total golfers, junior Alexandra Batista recorded a 2-over 72 on the final 18 holes of play to finish with a two-day score of 10-over 226. Fellow junior Paola Cortes notched her best finish of the season after rising nine spots on the individual leaderboard Tuesday, carding a 1-over 75 in the third round to tie for 17th with a final score of 16-over 232.
Senior Erica Lautensack shot a 4-over 76 on the par-72, 6,042-yard course Tuesday and tied for 22nd with a 54-hole tally of 18-over 234. Fellow senior Jamee Jorgensen rose 11 spots between the second and third rounds, registering a 4-over 76 in the final round to tie for 27th with a three-round mark of 21-over 237.
Sophomore Kelly Yang improved upon her second round score by 10 strokes, carding a 5-over 77 in the third round and rising 16 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 53rd with a cumulative score of 31-over 247.
Sam Houston State captured the team title with a 27-over 891, while Texas State took home runner-up honors with a three-round score of 35-over 899 and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (45-over 909) finished third.
Anne-Charlotte Mora of Texas State won the individual title after shooting an even-par 216 across the two days. Sam Houston State's Hanna Alberto, who is ranked No. 92 in the nation according to Golfstat, claimed a runner-up finish with a 4-over 220 as McNeese's Riley Issac (5-over 221) earned third place.

The Ladyjacks will have nearly two weeks off from tournament play before returning to action Saturday and Sunday, March 23-24 at the Northern Arizona's Red Rocks Invitational, held at the Oak Creek Country Club in Sedona, Arizona.
