BOZEMAN, MT –Associate Head Coach Rebecca Alvidrez of the Ladyjack basketball team achieved yet another milestone in her career as a player and coach last Friday, when she was inducted into the Montana State University Athletics Hall of Fame. Alvidrez was a two-year player for the Bobcats during the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons, and was part of a six-member class entering the hall in a ceremony held on the MSU campus.
"Rebecca was a tremendous player on both ends of the floor" said SFA head coach Mark Kellogg. "She was a true floor general with the ability to score and pass. She is still probably the best rebounding point guard I have ever coached. She had tremendous success individually and as a member of those Montana State teams. We have come full circle now as together we continue to build this SFA program."
Alvidrez is in her second season with the Ladyjacks, and is already becoming an important part of the Ladyjack's success. SFA has posted a combined 43-10 record (25-2 SLC) since her arrival in Nacogdoches, and her work with the Ladyjack guards has helped SFA rank near the top of the league in the majority of statistical categories.
In her playing days, Alvidrez began her career at Otero Junior College, earning All-American honors in each of her two seasons there. She then transferred to Montana State, and was an immediate force in the Big Sky Conference, being named the league's Newcomer of the Year in 2001 to go along with a All-Conference First Team selection. In her second season with the Bobcats, she was named the 2002 Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year, a All-Conference First Team selection and a member of the 2002 Big Sky All-Tournament Team.
"I am very honored to be selected to the Montana State Hall of fame", said Alvidrez. "I will always cherish my time as a student-athlete so much because I grew so much and in so many ways through our adventures and the challenges of competing with my teammates. There are so many people that helped me along the way and it's those lifelong relationships that truly mean the most to me. Those life lessons continue to help me as I strive to help these young women."
