
Bowling in Florida for Sunshine State Winter Classic this Weekend

Ladyjacks set to take on 14-team tournament field comprised of 11 nationally-ranked programs
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After competing in its hometown state last weekend, the SFA bowling team will traverse to Florida for the first time since 2016 for the Sunshine State Winter Classic. The Ladyjacks will be co-hosting the tournament with Sacred Heart at the Boardwalk Bowl in Orlando Friday-Sunday, Feb. 8-10.
A total of 14 teams, 11 of which are ranked in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25 poll, will converge on the lanes across the three days. SFA, who rose to No. 7 in the recent February ranking release Wednesday, will be joined by fellow nationally-ranked programs No. 2 Vanderbilt, third-ranked Nebraska, No. 9 Tulane, 12th-ranked Delaware State, No. 14 UAB, 15th-ranked Lincoln Memorial University, No. 18 Maryville University, 20th-ranked Sacred Heart, No. 22 Monmouth and 25th-ranked Youngstown State. Additionally, Bethune Cookman, Florida A&M and Prairie View will be competing in Orlando over the weekend.
Friday morning's action will get underway at 8:35 a.m. CST with five, five-game Baker matches, followed by five traditional team match Saturday, Feb. 9 starting at 7:25 a.m. One remaining traditional team match will be bowled Sunday, Feb. 10 at 7:25 a.m. to complete pool play before two rounds of best 4-of-7 bracket play Baker matches. Seeding for Sunday's bracket play will be determined by each team's pinfall total from the opening Baker matches Friday and the six traditional team matches.

Last Time on the Lanes
The Ladyjacks placed fourth this past weekend at the highly-competitive Prairie View A&M Invitational where 10 of the nation's top 11 teams met in Arlington. Claiming 12,441 total pins, SFA claimed six match victories and went 4-1 in traditional team matches Saturday. Highlights included four wins over top-seven opponents, including traditional team match triumphs against fifth-ranked Sam Houston State and then No. 6 Tulane and Baker match victories over then fourth-ranked Arkansas State and then No. 7 Fairleigh Dickinson. Two weeks after claiming top honors at the Kutztown Invitational, senior bowler Dakotah Hazlewood continued her fine play by finishing 15th among 80 total bowlers in individual play with a 197 game average and a pinfall total of 1,182 in six traditional games.
