Ladyjacks Turn in Highest Finish of Season at Islander Classic

SFA posts fourth-place finish at 11-team tournament as Erica Lautensack and Alexandra Batista place within top 10
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A trio of SFA women's golfers claimed top-15 finishes and the Ladyjack golf team captured their highest finish to date of the 2018-19 season at the 2019 Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, Tuesday afternoon. SFA placed fourth among the tournament's 11-team field by carding a three-round total of 66-over 930 at the Corpus Christi Country Club, finishing ahead of fellow Southland Conference member the University of the Incarnate Word.
Two Ladyjack golfers took home top-10 finishes as senior Erica Lautensack completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament by tying for fifth among 60 total golfers with a three-round score of 11-over 227. She shot a 6-over 78 in the final round Tuesday morning, while junior Alexandra Batista carded a 4-over 76 on the final 18 holes of play to notch an eighth-place finish with a cumulative score of 12-over 228.
Senior Jamee Jorgensen was SFA's third top-15 finisher after carding a two-day score of 18-over 234 on the par-72, 6,045-yard course to tie for 15th. The top-15 placements for Lautensack, Batista and Jorgensen mark the highest finishes of the season thus far for the trio.
Turning in a three-round tally of 28-over 244, junior Paola Cortes placed 28th as freshman individual competitor Zayda Cedillo posted a 34-over 250 to tie for 39th. Sophomore Kelly Yang rounded out the Ladyjacks' lineup by placing 42nd with a three-round score of 35-over 251.
Two-time defending Southland champion Houston Baptist captured the Islander Classic title by an impressive 23 strokes, carding a 28-over 892 as a team across the two days. Tournament host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi earned runner-up honors after scoring a 51-over 915, while Southern Illinois (59-over 923) finished just seven strokes ahead of SFA for third place.
The Islanders' Autumn Bynum shot a 2-under 70 on the final 18 holes of play to win the individual title with a cumulative score of 1-over 217 as HBU's Lexi Brooks (3-over 219) took home second place two strokes off the lead and Kaity Cummings (6-over 222) finished third.

The Ladyjacks will have the next two weeks off from competition before returning to tournament action Monday and Tuesday, March 11-12 in Jacksonville, Florida, for Butler's Benbow Invitational held at the Blue Sky Golf Club.
