
Humphreys Adds Nine to Ladyjacks' Roster for 2020 and Beyond

Eight prep players and one junior college player commit during fall signing period
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Few teams in the nation have succeeded in piling up the impressive amount of accomplishments the SFA volleyball team has in recent years and Wednesday afternoon 32nd-year head coach and director of volleyball Debbie Humphreys announced the latest group of incoming Ladyjacks who will aim to maintain SFA's reputation as one of the finest programs in the nation.
"We are really excited about the 2020 recruiting class," stated Humphreys. "Not only are we getting some very talented athletes, but players who are extremely focused and driven in their academics as well. We are excited about the athleticism and the volleyball IQ of this entire group."
A group of nine individuals - eight from high school and one out of the junior college ranks - comprise the Ladyjacks' 2020 signing class and will team with the returning members of three-time defending Southland Conference champions to make a run at future glory.
"This group along with our returning players will help SFA continue taking steps forward on the national scene. We look forward to seeing them progress throughout their careers."
Maddy Bourque | S | 5-10 | Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville HS | Sports Performance club team
• The only out-of-state player among the nine Ladyjack newcomers, Bourque has spent her prep career helping Yorkville High School turn into one of the the premier programs in the state of Illinois.
• A two-time All-Area selection (by Beacon News and Kendall County Preps), Bourque racked up over 700 assists as well as 40 blocks as a junior. Prior to the start of the 2019 season, Yorkville was chosen as one of the top five teams to watch in the Aurora area while Bourque was listed among the top 20 individuals to watch in the area, too.
• Through her career, Bourque has secured multiple All-Tournament accolades and made waves on the AAU scene by earning an All-American title at the AAU national tournament.
• A standout in the classroom as well, Bourque has been chosen as an Academic All-Conference performer during her high school career.
Humphreys on Bourque | "Maddy has been part of an extremely disciplined club and has received high level training at the setting position. We expect her adjustment to happen quickly and we are very excited to have her as a part of our program."
Ielan Bradley | MB | 6-2 | Cypress, Texas/Cypress Springs HS | Texas Tornados club team
• One of the most dynamic athletes in the Houston area, Bradley boasted some of the best numbers in the district while sporting a Cypress Springs High School uniform. The middle blocker topped the district's charts in both blocks and kills and stands as the school's leader in total kills with over 1,000 in her career.
• While captaining the Cypress Springs squad, Bradley picked up First Team All-District and Houston Chronicle Girls Athlete of the Week citations while also being lauded as one of the top outside hitters in the city of Houston by VYPE.
• Outside of the prep scene, Bradley played her way into a spot on the USA Volleyball's High Performance A2 team, a high-performance team consisting of many of the nation's best prep volleyball players.
• Academically, Bradley's standout list of accolades includes a spot in National Honor Society as well as an Academic All-District choice.
Humphreys on Bradley | "Ielan is a phenomenal athlete who has the ability to play in the middle, or on either pin. Ielan is a mature player who demands a lot from herself. We expect her to improve at a rapid pace and we are looking forward to helping her take her game to the next level."
Bryli Contreras | 5-7 | Libero | Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS | Amarillo Elite club team
• All Contreras has done through a star-studded prep career is develop into one of the top back-row defensive players in both west Texas and the entire state.
• Through her career in a Canyon High School uniform, Contreras has taken home the titles of District Newcomer of the Year, District Defensive Player of the Year and Panhandle All-Star performer.
• Contreras made the cut for the AGCA All-State Team as well as the Amarillo Super Team and the Regional High-Performance Team. The AVCA began to take notice of her high-level play and put her on its Phenom List, too.
• She is also one of five players among the Ladyjacks' recruiting class who participated in National Honor Society as a prep.
Humphreys on Contreras | "Bryli has all the qualities you look for in a libero. She has solid ball control and a consistent level of play. There will be an adjustment because of the pace of the game, but we expect Bryli to adjust quickly and develop into a top level libero."
Coco Gillett | OH | 5-10 | Bryan, Texas/Bryan HS | TAV Houston club team
• A three-time team captain for Bryan High School, Gillet has secured Most Valuable Player designations from the district, her team and was also named her squad's offensive MVP as a result of her stellar play.
• Thanks to her offensive prowess, Gillet corralled District Attacker of the Year, First Team All-Brazos Valley and TAVC All-State honors.
• Named a Game Changers Player of the Week on one occasion, Gillet received multiple All-Tournament Team nods and saw her name come up on the adidas Phenom List. For USA Volleyball, Gillet was placed on the A1 Team which features many of the best prep players from around the nation.
• As a student, Gillet has brought home numerous Student of the Month awards as well as an All-Academic Volleyball Team award. An honor roll student, Gillet takes part in Bryan High School's branch of the National Honor Society.
Humphreys on Gillet | "Coco is a tremendous competitor who is driven to be the best. She is extremely aggressive and wants to do everything in her power to win. Coco has a big arm that will score points."
Allie Hamsher | 5-8 | S | Kaufman, Texas/Forney HS/North Central Texas College
• The lone junior college transfer among the Ladyjacks' latest recruiting class, Hamsher's two-year run at North Central Texas College culminated with a selection as the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference's (NTJCAC) Player of the Year.
• Under the direction of NTJCAC Coach of the Year Angie Bullard, Hamsher was also an All-Region NTJCAC First Team pick as well as an All-NTJCAC First Team pick en route to helping her team advance to the NJCAA Region V Tournament.
• A two-time NTJCAC Player of the Week, Hamsher served as her squad's team captain and was named to the Rose City Classic All-Tournament Team as well as the MVP of an additional tournament.
• Directing her team's offense, Hamsher averaged 9.23 assists per set while piling up a team-best 48 service aces (0.40 per set) through 2019. Defensively she averaged 2.14 digs per set as well as 0.43 blocks per set as a six-rotation threat.
Humphreys on Hamsher | "Allie is a mature player that is just as excited about SFA as we are about her. She had a successful junior college career and we anticipate her bringing that same level of success to SFA. I expect Allie to be a great teammate that brings a level of maturity that every team needs."
Hailey Hunt | OH | 5-10 | Glenn Heights, Texas/Red Oak HS | NRG club team
• Heading south to start her collegiate career, Hunt made a name for herself as one of the most prolific producers of offense on the Dallas-Fort Worth prep volleyball scene.
• The outside hitter gathered up both team and District Most Valuable Player laurels in addition to All-District First Team and All-Ellis Country honors during her days as a prep player.
• Hunt also hauled in Blocker of the Year and DFW Player of the Week honors while sporting Red Oak High School colors.
• This past September, Hunt was chosen for a spot on the USAV Nationals All-Tournament Team after putting up phenomenal numbers during her time with the squad.
Humphreys on Hunt | "Hailey is an extremely dynamic athlete. She jumps well and is very quick off the floor. She is that player that will be a crowd favorite because of her athleticism. As she gets stronger and improves her out of system attacking, she will be hard to stop."
Abbey Karcher | 6-1 | RS | Belton, Texas/Belton HS | Waco Juniors club team
• Making a big splash during her debut season for Belton High School, Karcher brought home the title of District Newcomer of the Year and went on to be named to the Waco Tribune's All-Super Centex squad.
• The Temple Daily Telegram named Karcher its Athlete of the Week and she also claimed a spot on the Decatur All-Tournament Team as a result of her high-level play.
• In addition to her prep accolades, Karcher helped lead her team to a fifth-place finish at USA Junior Nationals.
• Karcher will exit the halls of Belton High School ranked among the top five percent of her graduating class. A member of National Honor Society, Karcher secured Academic All-District honors and was among the National Society of High School Scholars.
Humphreys on Karcher | "Abbey is going to be a great right side for us. She is working hard in the weight room to develop more strength which will allow her to terminate at an even higher level. She is a big blocking presence and extremely funny. Abbey will make sure that there is never a dull moment."
JuliAnn McGinnis | 6-1 | MB/OH | Leander, Texas/Leander HS | Austin Juniors club team
• Able to excel at any position on the front row, McGinnis latched on to All-District and Offensive Player of the Year honors during the course of her time in a Leander High School uniform.
• McGinnis made the cut for a spot on the AISD All-Tournament Team, too, and as a result of her work in the classroom she was chosen as an Academic All-District performer.
Humphreys on McGinnis | "JuliAnn gives us a player that can play any front row position. It is extremely beneficial to have that versatile player who can play middle blocker, or on either pin. She doesn't say a lot, but lets her arm do her talking for her."
Ashley Procious | 6-2 | MB | The Colony, Texas/The Colony HS | Instinct club team
• Not many players from the prep ranks can claim to have been honored as both a Hitter of the Year and a Defensive Player of the Year, but Procious can do just that as a result of her strong front-row play for The Colony High School.
• An All-District First Team selection, Procious was named The Colony's most improved player to emerge as one of the top middles in the area.
• On the AAU circuit, Procious powered her team to a fifth-place finish. Additionally, she spent time in the USA Volleyball system and helped lead her squad to a runner-up finish at nationals.
• Academically, Procious collected First Team Academic All-District honors and was named to both the A/B Honor Roll and the AAU Academic All-America team while participating in her school's branch of National Honor Society.
Humphreys on Procious | "Ashley is a hard worker and that is going to allow her to improve quickly. She has good size and is a solid blocker. Her arm swing is improving and we expect her to develop into someone who can terminate frequently out of the middle."
