Musser Scores Fourth Goal of Season in Overtime Contest at McNeese
10/6/2019 4:50:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A go-ahead goal from sophomore Mattie Musser staked the Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team to a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute of regulation, only to see the game slip away in double overtime, 2-1 on Sunday in Lake Charles, La. SFA moves to 4-8 on the season and 1-4 in SLC play with the tough decision.
OF NOTE
• Junior Katelyn Termini nearly put the 'Jacks ahead in the game's 24th minute, putting a shot on target that ricocheted off the crossbar and away. The shot would have given Termini her second goal of the weekend.
• Musser's goal in the 70th minute came off of a corner kick service from Sophia Fondren, and was her fourth goal of the season.
• Madeline Talbot started the game in goal in and posted a scoreless opening half of play, turning aside five shots in 45 minutes played. Talbot has been stellar in her four games since returning from injury, posting an .889 save percentage and 1.05 goals-against-average across 171 minutes of action.
• Up next for the 'Jacks is a road trip to Conway, Arkansas this week for a crack at the reigning regular season champions. The contest is slated for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff on Friday.
COACH CRITTENDEN'S THOUGHTS
Thoughts on his team's play in the match:
"We played with great intensity and had a strong identity today. I am proud of our competitive edge and the toughness our kids showed in playing a demanding game on Friday and then a double overtime game today against a McNeese team that was well-rested from their weather cancellation on Friday. We will continue growing and as long as we have the competitive identity we had today we will outlast this adversity and our desired outcomes will follow."
