Ladyjacks to take on 28-team field, which includes 20 of the nation’s top 25 teams, at Kutztown University’s Kutztown Invitational over weekend

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the second consecutive weekend, the SFA bowling team will be on the lanes competing as the Ladyjacks continue winter tournament play at Kutztown University's Kutztown Invitational in Limerick, Pennsylvania, Friday-Sunday, Jan. 18-20. Twenty of the nation's top 25 teams will converge inside Limerick Bowl for the three-day event with SFA, who is ranked 10th in the most recent National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, bowling against 27 other programs.

Six of the Southland Bowling League's eight members will be competing in Pennsylvania over the weekend as the Ladyjacks will be joined by third-ranked Vanderbilt, No. 4 Arkansas State, fifth-ranked Sam Houston State, No. 6 Tulane and Youngstown State. Other nationally-ranked teams set to bowl at the 2019 Kutztown Invitational include seventh-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 8 Maryland-Eastern Shore, ninth-ranked Saint Frances (Pa.), No. 11 North Carolina A&T, 12th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, No. 13 Delaware State, 16th-ranked Sacred Heart, No. 17 Monmouth, 18th-ranked LIU Brooklyn, No. 19 Mount St. Mary's, 20th-ranked UAB, No. 21 Adelphi, 22nd-ranked Maryville University, No. 23 Duquesne and 25th-ranked Kutztown. Chestnut Hill, Howard, LIU Post, Medaille College, Morgan State, St. Francis College (N.Y.) and Wilmington University round out the 28-team tournament field.

The Kutztown Invitational will get underway at 9:55 a.m. CST Friday, Jan. 18 with five, five-game Baker matches, followed by five traditional team matches Saturday, Jan. 19 starting at 8:25 a.m. CST. Each team's pinfall total from Friday and Saturday's Baker and traditional matches will determine seeding for bracket play Sunday, Jan. 20. Three rounds of best 4-of-7 Baker matches in bracket play format will take place Sunday beginning at 7:25 a.m. CST to determine a tournament champion.

SFA will bowl 23-ranked Duquesne, No. 7 Fairleigh Dickinson, 16th-ranked Sacred Heart, St. Francis College (N.Y.) and Morgan State in Baker matches Friday, before facing No. 13 Delaware State, 21st-ranked Adelphi, Chestnut Hill, No. 17 Monmouth and 25th-ranked and event host Kutztown Saturday in traditional team matches.

The Ladyjacks will be making their ninth overall and second-straight appearance at the Kutztown Invitational. A year ago, SFA went 11-2 in Pennsylvania but took home seventh place among a 27-team field with a pinfall total of 13,279. Posting two top-five finishes at the tournament in program history, the Ladyjacks' top showing came in 2016 when SFA placed third as a team with a 9-2 record.

Last Time on the Lanes
Last weekend, SFA got 2019 started by placing fourth among 21 teams at Arkansas State's Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The Ladyjacks knocked down 12,485 pins and posted seven victories, including three wins over top-25 opponents. Highlighting the tournament was SFA's 4-1 best 4-of-7 Baker match triumph over the country's top-ranked team, No. 1 McKendree University, in the opening round of championship bracket play. Senior Paige Beeney was sensational, earning a runner-up individual finish among 128 total bowlers and claiming all-tournament team honors. She came just three pins shy of the individual crown by knocking down 1,086 pins in five traditional team matches, where she averaged a game score of 217.2 and recorded a career-best game of 267 in a 1,050-902 match win over second-ranked Nebraska.

The Ladyjacks will have two weeks off from competition before returning to tournament action in Arlington, Texas, at the Prairie View A&M Invitational Friday-Sunday, Feb. 1-3.
