Ladyjacks post four victories, tack on 4,814 pins on second day of competition to hold steady in fourth place among 21-team field
JONESBORO, Ark. – The SFA bowling team began day two of competition at the Mid-Winter Invitational at the Jonesboro Bowling Center inside the Hijinx Family Entertainment Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas, with four consecutive traditional team match victories and held onto its fourth place standing among the tournament's 21-team field. The Ladyjacks tacked on an additional 4,814 pins to own a two-day, 10-match total of 9,637 heading into Sunday's bracket play.
Opening up traditional team match play with an impressive 1,050 score, SFA was able to out-bowl second-ranked Nebraska 1,050-902 behind a career-best 267 game from senior Paige Beeney. Two other Ladyjacks also contributed 200-pin games in the match as sophomore Sarah Gill added a 201 and sophomore Sarah Voiers an even 200. SFA continued its hot Saturday start with a 977-877 match win over Kentucky Wesleyan. Junior Megan Eaglehouse led the Ladyjacks in the match with a season-high 226, while Beeney rolled a 213 and Gill a 205.
Anchored by Eaglehouse's 223 game in match three, Gill's 215 and Beeney's second-straight game of 213, SFA defeated its second nationally-ranked opponent of the day with a 972-914 triumph over No. 22 Maryville University. The Ladyjacks then rolled their way to SFA's fourth win of the afternoon, topping Alabama A&M 925-756 with a 202 game from Beeney and scores of 190, 189, 188 from Gill, Voiers and Eaglehouse.
Tournament host and fourth-ranked Arkansas State handed the Ladyjacks their lone blemish of the day as SFA was able to record just 890 pins, compared to the Red Wolves' 1,006.
The three-day Mid-Winter Invitational will conclude Sunday when a champion will be crowned following three rounds of best 4-of-7 bracket play Baker matches. Based on team's pinfall total from the first two days of competition, the Ladyjacks have earned the No. 4 seed for Sunday's championship bracket.
SFA will bowl against third-seeded and top-ranked McKendree University, who owns a 7-2 record and 9,789 total pins on the weekend, in the opening round Sunday. Competing for the Mid-Winter Invitational title, the Ladyjacks would face the loser of fellow Southland Bowling League member and third-ranked Vanderbilt and No. 4 Arkansas State in the second round with a first-round victory. The Commodores are the top seed for Sunday's bracket play after going a perfect 10-0 and knocking down 9,996 total pins across Friday and Saturday, while the Red Wolves are seeded second with a 6-3 mark and pinfall total of 9,793.
