Lumberjacks’ Home Opener Canceled Due to Inclement Weather

SFA football’s 2018 home opening matchup with Tarleton State canceled after continued lightning delays and ongoing thunderstorms
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin football's 2018 home opener versus Tarleton State has been canceled due to inclement weather at Homer Bryce Stadium and in the Nacogdoches area. The game will not be made up.
With an originally scheduled 6 p.m. CST kickoff, Saturday evening's game was postponed beginning at approximately 78 minutes until kickoff due to nearby lightning strikes. After several more rounds of thunderstorms and lightning delays, the game was officially called off with no make up date.
The Lumberjacks were scheduled to take on the visiting Texans for the 13th time in program history and the fourth time in a home opener. SFA will now have to wait two more weeks for its 92nd home opener when Abilene Christian visits Texas' oldest town for parent's weekend Saturday, Sept. 22.

The 'Jacks will now have to wait one more week before returning to the gridiron for game action. SFA will hit the road for the second time of 2018 next weekend and open up its Southland Conference slate at Incarnate Word. Kickoff from Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium in San Antonio next Saturday, Sept. 2 is slated for 6 p.m. CST.
