Women’s Golf Returns to Competition at Sam Houston State’s Bearkat Invitational

Ladyjacks set to play in third tournament of fall season, take on 14-team field Monday and Tuesday
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After a nearly three-week break from fall competition, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team returns to the links to open up the month of October, competing in fellow Southland Conference member Sam Houston State's Bearkat Invitational. The Ladyjacks will tee off on the High Meadow Ranch Golf Course in Magnolia, Texas, the sight of the league's 2019 championship event, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 1-2.
The Format
SFA will play a total of 54 holes across the two days as the tournament features 36 continuous holes Monday and the final 18 holes of play Tuesday. Both days of play will get underway at 8:30 a.m. with shotgun starts.
The Course
The High Meadow Ranch Golf Course is a par-72, 6,164-yard course that has been rated as the No. 2 golf course in the greater Houston area. Split into three six-hole loops, the course was designed by David Ogrin and Tim Nugent.
The Tournament Field
The Ladyjacks are set to take on a 14-team tournament field that includes the host Bearkats, in addition to five other Southland teams. Two-time defending conference champion Houston Baptist, Lamar, McNeese, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and the University of the Incarnate Word join Bowling Green State University, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), Oklahoma City University, Alabama State, McLennan Community College, Texas Southern and Tyler Junior College to complete the 14-team field.
The Lineup
Senior Erica Lautensack will headline SFA's lineup, which includes junior Alexandra Batista, fellow senior Jamee Jorgensen, sophomores Alexis Szewczyk and Kelly Yang, and junior Paola Cortes competing as an individual.
Tee Times
Monday's opening round of play will get started at 8:30 a.m. as the Ladyjacks are paired with McNeese, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV. Lautensack will tee off from hole five, while Batista will start on hole six, Jorgensen on hole seven, Szewczyk hole eight and Yang hole nine. Cortes will tee off of hole 16 with individual golfers from Texas Southern and Tyler Junior College.
Last Time on the Links
Most recently, SFA competed at the Golfweek Program Challenge on Pawleys Island, South Carolina, the second week of September and finished 11th out of 14 teams. The Ladyjacks shot a 70-over 922 across the three days and were led by Lautensack, who turned in her second consecutive top-20 finish. Finishing with a 4-over 217 for the three rounds, Lautensack shot a season-low 2-under 69 in round two and tied for 11th place among 74 total golfers.

The Ladyjacks will have another three week break from competition before returning to the links Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 22-23 in Mansfield, Texas, for the UT Arlington Women's Invitational held at the Walnut Creek Country Club.
