SFA women’s golf finishes seventh at Oral Roberts’ The Lady Maxwell to begin 2018-19 season

ARDMORE, Okla. – The Stephen F. Austin women's golf team completed its first tournament of the 2018-19 season Sunday afternoon at the Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The Ladyjacks placed seventh at Oral Roberts University's The Lady Maxwell and improved upon their round two score by four strokes, shooting a 26-over 310 to finish with an overall tally of 73-over 925.

UTSA captured the team title with a three-round score of 24-over 876, while fellow Southland Conference member Sam Houston State finished second with a 32-over 884 and Troy (35-over 887) placed third.

Senior Erica Lautensack posted SFA's first top-10 individual finish of the season by tying for seventh among a field of 50 total golfers. She improved her second-round score by five strokes, shooting a 2-over 73 in the third round on the on the par-71, 6,037-yard course to claim a three-round total of 8-over 221.

Junior Alexandra Batista was the Ladyjacks' second-highest finisher at the three-day, 54-hole tournament, carding an 8-over 79 Sunday to tie for 27th with total tally of 20-over 233. Sophomore Alexis Szewczyk placed 38th with a three-round score of 27-over 240, while fellow sophomore Kelly Yang and senior Jamee Jorgensen ended up in a three-way tie for 39th. Jorgensen shot a 3-over 74 in the final round as Yang, who competed as an individual, carded an 8-over 79. Both finished with a three-day total of 29-over 242.

Junior Paola Cortes and true freshman Zayda Cedillo placed 46th and 47th, respectively, turning in tournament scores of 34-over 247 and 35-over 248.

Sam Houston State's Jenna Phillips won the individual title after shooting 1-over 214 for the three rounds, including a 1-under 70 final round. UTSA's Hannah Holzmann took home runner-up honors with a three-round score of 2-over 215, while Nicole Lorup of Troy finished third (3-over 216).
