NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin Track and Field head coach Phil Olson announced the hiring of Hadrien Choukroun to the team's staff for the upcoming 2018-19 season. A native of France, Choukroun has spent the past five seasons at the University of South Carolina, first as a volunteer and graduate assistant, then most recently as an assistant coach sprints and hurdles coach.
"We are very excited to introduce Hadrien Choukroun as the newest member of our track and field coaching staff", said SFA Track and Field head coach Phil Olson. "Coach Frenchie" brings a great knowledge and upbeat coaching style to our team, having been a part of an outstanding program under Hall of Fame Coach Curtis Frye at The University of South Carolina. His experience in the SEC at South Carolina and his ties in international recruiting will certainly impact our program at a high level. Our goal is to be a top-25 program in the NCAA while winning conference championships, and Coach Frenchie will be an important member of our staff to reach those goals. The entire coaching staff is excited for him and his wife, Priscilla, to join our program."
Prior to his time at South Carolina, Choukroun served as an assistant coach for hurdles/jumps/throws and multis at Benedict College for a season. Hadrien also served as an assistant mental coach for French National Team athlete Gael Querin, and provided motor skill measurement for the French National Basketball Team as well.
Choukroun guided Carolina's sprinters, hurdlers and relay groups to great success in 2018, coaching one dual All-American and qualifying both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays for the NCAA Championships. During his time with the program, South Carolina crowned 24 All-Americans (13 men, 11 women) in the sprint and hurdle events, including four in the women's 4x400m relay in 2016
"As soon as coach Olson and I talked on the phone I felt the humanity behind the coach", said Choukroun. "When I came on campus for the interview, everybody was so welcoming. Seeing the staff working so much as a team sold me right away on the program. I have learned to love the one that love you back. I only could say yes to the offer! I believe that the future of SFA Track and Field will be exceptional and I am grateful to be part of it."
Choukroun is married to the former Priscilla Amara and resides in Nacogdoches.
