Senior Angelo Leyvani shoots a 5-under 67 in the third round, SFA men’s golf notches an 11-under 277 Tuesday morning
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team leaped five spots in the team standings by shooting an 11-under 277 Tuesday morning to tie for a runner-up finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge on Pawleys Island, South Carolina. The Lumberjacks had four different golfers register third round scores under par as SFA tied the Ohio Valley Conference's Jacksonville State with a three-day total of 14-under 850 in their first tournament of the 2018-19 season.
Senior Angelo Leyvani anchored SFA with a strong finish, carding a 5-under 67 in the final round and completing the three-day tournament held at the True Blue Golf Club with a score of 9-under 207 and a fourth-place tie. Junior Jake Hendrix also had an impressive morning on the par-72, 6,926-yard course, improving his second-round score by six strokes and recording a 3-under 69 to tie for 15th with a three-round tally of 3-under 213.
Also shooting under par in the third round was sophomore Steven Fabik and freshman Isiah Henderson. Fabik jumped 10 spots on the individual leaderboard between Monday and Tuesday as he shot a 2-under 70 for round three to tie for 20th with a cumulative score of 2-under 214. In his inaugural collegiate tournament, Henderson tied for 29th after carding a 1-under 71 in the third round and finishing with three-day total at even-par 216.
Fellow freshman Trent Lutze posted a 15-over 87 during Tuesday morning's third round, completing the tournament with a 33-over 249.
The Big South Conference's Campbell took home the team title by 34 strokes, shooting a 15-under 273 in the third round and owning an eye-popping 48-under 816 for the three days. Campbell also had the top three individual finishers as Jesper Svensson (16-under 200), Amarin (Ray) Kraivixien (12-under 204) and Max Theodorakis (11-under 205) finished first, second and third.
