SFA Soccer Set to Host Annual Purple and White Scrimmage on Saturday

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Fans of Stephen F. Austin and the SFA Soccer team can get their first look at the 2018 squad in a real game scenario in the annual Purple and White game this Saturday. The intrasquad competition will feature half of the Ladyjacks on the Purple squad and half on the White squad, and will consist of a full warmup followed by two 25 minute halves. The game will kick off at 6 p.m, followed by additional on-field festivities beginning at 7:00.
Following the game, the team will host the Meet N' Beat event, where fans will have a chance to challenge the Ladyjacks in a ten minute skills challenge on the field, followed immediately after by a poster signing by the team. The 2018 SFA Soccer poster will be available free of charge for fans to have signed by the Ladyjacks.
After a 12-8-1 (8-3 SLC) record in the 2017 campaign saw the Ladyjacks finish second in the conference regular season championships and runners-up in the conference tournament title game, unfinished business is on the mind for the 2018 squad. The team returns a total of 14 letterwinners and nine starters, an experienced core to pace the squad. Nine new additions (seven freshmen, two transfers) figure to inject a renewed spirit of competition into the team during the fall training session and will compete with the veterans for playing time.
The 2018 schedule is a tough one for the Ladyjacks, who play three "Power 5" programs in a two-week span from August 19-September 2, including a home tilt against SEC foe Mississippi State on August 19 and road tilts versus TCU and Texas. Conference USA opponent Southern Miss also comes to town on September 7, with the conference schedule beginning one week later.
