NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin football team's 2018 campaign officially begins in just 47 days and on Thursday, July 19, media personnel from around the state and region will be meeting with a trio of members of the Lumberjack program as part of the 2018 Southland Conference Football Media Day proceedings at the Hilton Houston Post Oak by the Galleria in Houston.
The league is set to air media day interviews live on ESPN3, available everywhere via the ESPN app, for all 11 of the conference's football programs beginning at 9 a.m. CST. Houston's KPRC-TV (NBC) sports director Randy McIlvoy, alongside longtime Southland football broadcaster Lincoln Rose, will host the interviews with each team's head coach and an offensive and defensive player. The morning's interviews will wrap up at 11:55 a.m. CST as the afternoon's interview session will run from 1:15 p.m. – 4:40 p.m. CST.
Interim SFA head football coach Jeff Byrd, who enters his first season at the helm of the 'Jacks, will be heading down to Houston for the league's annual event, along with senior quarterback Foster Sawyer and senior linebacker Ryan Woods. Last Thursday, Woods was tabbed a preseason All-Southland Second Team defense pick.
The three will step onto the main stage at 1:45 p.m. CST for the live broadcast as Byrd will take to the main podium to be interviewed by McIlvoy and field questions from various Southland media members. Both Sawyer and Woods will participate in an interview with Rose on the ESPN3 set, before all three head to the conference's social media suite at 2:15 p.m. CST. While in the suite, Byrd, Sawyer and Woods will take part in social media segments that can be viewed on the Southland's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. During and following the trio's time in the social media suite, all three will be available for individual interviews with the media.
Southland Conference commissioner Tom Burnett will provide opening remarks from the podium at 9 a.m. CST to kick off media day as the league unveils its 2018 preseason polls.

The Purple and White open up the 2018 season Saturday, Sept. 1 with a trip to Southeastern Conference stalwart Mississippi State. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU, available everywhere via the ESPN app. The 'Jacks host NCAA Division II Tarleton State in a 6 p.m. tilt for its home opener Saturday, Sept. 8.
