Men’s Golf Posts First Top-Five Finish of 2018 at Lake Charles Invitational

‘Jacks shoot a 5-over 293 in Tuesday’s final round, finish with three-round total of 6-over 870 for third-place finish
LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team posted a third-place finish Tuesday at McNeese's Lake Charles Invitational at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget after tallying its second-lowest three-round score of the season with a 6-over 870. The Lumberjacks shot a 5-over 293 for the third and final round and moved up one spot in the 11-team standings after Monday's first two rounds of play.
Despite earning its third top-five finish of the season and first of 2018, SFA was 20 strokes off of Louisiana-Lafayette's top score of 14-under 850 and eight strokes behind second-place Marquette (2-under 862). The two-day, 54-hole tournament marked the Lumberjacks' best finish at an event since placing third in a field of 10 teams at the Little Rock Intercollegiate in October.
Freshman Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) turned in his third top-10 finish of the season and fourth top 20 by shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round Tuesday to complete the tournament with a 3-under 213. Junior Jake Hendrix (Austin, Texas), after posting a career-low 3-under 69 in Monday morning's opening round, notched a 4-over 76 during Tuesday's final round to tie for 14th among 61 total golfers with a two-day total at an even-par 216.
Junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas) rose six spots on the individual leaderboard after the third round Tuesday as he improved his second-round score by four strokes with a 1-under 72 to tie for 24th with a three-round score of 4-over 220. Meanwhile, senior Blake Stock (Hewitt, Texas) shot a 3-over 75 Tuesday to tie for 26th with a cumulative score of 6-over 222. Freshman Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas) closed out the three-day event with a third-round tally of 7-over 79, resulting in a 49th-place tie with a two-day total of 14-over 230.
Louisiana-Lafayette's Jack Tolson shot an impressive 15-under 201 through the three rounds to claim the Lake Charles Invitational individual title, while Texas State's Logan Davis took home runner-up honors with a three-round mark of 11-under 205. Bjorn Gudjonsson of Louisiana-Lafayette finished third with a total score of 8-under 208.
