Men’s Golf Competes in Third Tournament of Month at the Lake Charles Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After a near two-week break from competition, the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team will return to the links for tournament play next week at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for McNeese's Lake Charles Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will get underway Monday, March 26 with two rounds of play, followed by a third and final round Tuesday, March 27.

Hosted by fellow Southland Conference member McNeese, the event will feature four additional teams from the league in Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana, Nicholls and New Orleans. The remaining six teams competing in the tournament are Marquette, Texas State, Missouri State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern Mississippi and Houston.

A shotgun start will begin play on both days of competition with Monday's opening round getting underway at 8:30 a.m. and Tuesday's third round starting at 8 a.m. The Lumberjacks have been paired with Texas State and Missouri State for both the first and second rounds Monday and will tee off from holes 5-8. Monday's second round is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.

Senior Blake Stock (Hewitt, Texas), junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas), freshmen Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) and Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas), and junior Jake Hendrix (Austin, Texas) will represent SFA's lineup as the quintet take on the par-72, 6,869-yard course.

Last time out, the 'Jacks posted their third top-10 finish of 2017-18 with a sixth-place showing among 16 teams at their own ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge in Irving, Texas, a couple weeks ago. SFA shot a 31-over 883 on the par-71 course at the TPC Four Season Las Colinas, led by Stock, who tied for seventh with a 4-over 217. It was Stock's first top-10 finish of the season as Lopez notched his third top-15 placement, tying for 14th among 90 total golfers with a 7-over 220.
