SFA track and field opens 2018 outdoor season in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin track and field team opened its 2018 outdoor season with competition at the two-day TCU Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
LaSean Davis continued her strong freshman campaign with a third-place finish in the 800m race with a time of 2:14.11, while teammates Allison Compass and Shania Ford came in seventh and eighth with times of 2:16.98 and 2:18.13,respectively. On the men's side, Quinlin McGregor took first in the 800m with a time of 1:52.22, just ahead of teammate Drake Murphy at 1:52.78, and Pedro Flores finished eighth amongst collegiate with a time of 1:57.94. Flores would also place in the top eight in the men's 1500m, notching a seventh place mark with a 4:00.11 finish.
In the 400m hurdles, Dominique Jackson took third with a mark of 1:01.92, while Kadrienne Sanders took fifth at 1:03.72 and freshman Daijia Carr took eighth at 1:05.65.
A pair of relay teams for the women notched top six finishes, The 4x100 relay team of Meghan Bell, Imani Nave, Camille Singleton and Aaliyah Teel came in sixth at 45.88, while the 4x400 relay of Nave, Dominique Jackson, Teel and Tiffany Williams came in fifth with a time of 3:51.62. The men's 4x400 relay team of Kerry Gleason, Drake Murphy, Payton Davis and Tedrick Hawkins would place second with a mark of 3:09.82, while the men's 4x100 team of Aaron Piper, Jacob Rippy, Jared Love and Khalil Lacey took fifth with a mark of 40.58.
In the high jump, Kadejah Wilson came in third with a height of 1.68m (5-06), followed by Mahlon Dawson in sixth (1.58m) and Kariyah Lanehart in seventh at 1.58m. Aolani Harris took seventh in the long jump by reaching a mark of 5.59m, while Lanehart also notched a seventh place finish in the triple jump at 11.68m. Denzel Green would take second in the men's long jump (7.50m), while Isaiah Pittman took second in the triple jump (15.20m) and Green took fifth (15.10m). Noah Berney would take second in the men's high jump by reaching a mark of 2.00m.
Kaylee Bizzell took seventh in the women's pole vault with a height of 3.81m (12-06.00), while Chad Horstmann (4.61m) placed seventh on the men's side.
A first and third finish in the men's 3000m steeplechase came via Erick Rotich (9:24.56) and Larry Deramus (9.:30.10).
Competing in the women's discus, Mallory Dotson came in seventh with a mark of 42.94m. Tierra Wilson reached a mark of 52.75m in the women's hammer throw to finish third in the event , while Maggie Okul threw to a distance of 44.44m to slip into eighth place. Kevin Steward finished seventh in the men's shot put with a distance of 16.50m, while also placing eighth in the discus throw (50.86m). Trenton Bridges (53.97m) and Ben Bibby (49.27m) then finish sixth and seventh, respectively, in the hammer throw.
Kerry Gleason won the men's 110 meter hurdles with a finals time of 14.11, while freshman Sam Smethers placed eighth at 15.26. Smethers would also place eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.54, one spot behind teammate Logan Houser (1:00.22).
The team will be back in action this weekend, as the distance runners travel to the Rice Invitational in Houston, while the bulk of the team travels to San Antonio to take part in the UTSA Invitational. Both events will begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
